THE IMPORTANCE OF COFFEE IN THESE TIMES

Smart working has led to the rediscovery of small pleasures, particularly in the world of coffee.

5 minutes

The coronavirus emergency plunged our society into the rapid assimilation of remote working practices. It was a major driving force in accelerating the process of digitization and, as result, our way of working became smarter and along with our coffee breaks.

During this tumultuous period, the coffee break ritual evolved big time. While remaining a crucial part of most people’s everyday ritual, it also became a sort of treat, a way to pamper yourself after a long day of remote working. It became one of the most looked forward to daily recreational activities.

Remote working has incited us to find new and creative ways to share everyday moments through a screen. As we can no longer meet at the bar to enjoy a nice cup of coffee with our colleagues, the habit of virtual coffee came about so we could continue to partake in the holy office ritual that is the mid-day coffee break.

HOW THE PANDEMIC AFFECTED THE WAY WE EXPERIENCE OUR DAY-TO-DAY LIVES

Smart working has profoundly changed our daily habits, including those related to coffee consumption, particularly among Italians.

In the past, our pre-work cup of coffee was consumed on-the-go and standing up.  Now, the ritual of preparing the first coffee of the day represents an important sharing moment.  Pre-pandemic, we spent so much time consumed by our busy lives, but smart working has enabled us to rediscover habits we have become unused to for some time, such as taking time in the morning to truly enjoy your favourite cup of coffee.

HOW SMART WORKING CHANGED OUR DAILY HABITS

Smart working has encouraged our approach to new tastes, it has made it possible to rediscover the taste of preparing homemade coffee. Those minutes recovered before starting work are now used for the preparation of recipes worthy of the best bars.

With a little more time on our hands, our coffee possibilities are endless.

Now, you can enjoy your coffee (short, long, hot or cold macchiato, decaffeinated, bitter, in a large cup, in glass, cold or with cream) any time of day and as often as you please.

NEW HABITS THAT HAVE ARISEN

Working remotely has also seen the birth of another trend: setting up the perfect coffee corner at home.

There is now a huge focus on setting up a real space at home to enjoy your coffee break. This coffee corner can include a coffee maker or coffee machine cups of all sizes, spoons, saucers, containers for pods and powder, sugar and risers for snacks and biscuits, and last but definitely not least, high-quality coffee.

Whether it is enjoying a much-needed cup of coffee first thing in the morning or taking a much-needed afternoon coffee break, the new normal has led us to new ways to enjoy a pleasant coffee break in complete serenity.
